Poem during zazen by Master Wang-Genh

Just as a flower opens in the sunlight
Our whole body and mind opens during zazen
To the treasure of mushotoku

Mushotoku
Practice without purpose
Without the spirit of attainment
Without profit
Without expectation
Without dissatisfaction
Without frustration

Return to the present moment
The body expects nothing
The breath expects nothing
The ears, the eyes expect nothing
Your entire inner psyche expects nothing
Only the mind is dissatisfied

The self chases after something
A gain
Material
Affective
Emotional
Our rewards

Return to the present moment
The present moment does not wait for the next
There is no lack, no waiting
The moment is perfect as it is
Learn to quickly recognise what is not satisfied
Learn to quickly recognise what is chasing after an object
And the next...
And the next...
Endlessly

The self
Never satisfied
Always waiting
