Semaine "Zaike" au Ryumonji

At Ryumonji Zen Temple, Zaike Week took place – a week of teachings primarily for monks and nuns who live outside the temple, but also for anyone else who is interested.

This year’s theme was: TRANSMISSION IN ZEN
Zaike Tokudo literally means: ‘realising the Way whilst keeping one’s home’. It is the spiritual commitment we make during our ordination ceremony as monks or nuns.

Our social, family or economic circumstances do not generally allow us to become Shukke tokudo, to commit to realising the Way by ‘leaving home’. However, we are firmly determined to place our practice of zazen and the Bodhisattva precepts at the heart of our lives and our various professional, family or social commitments.

This is not always easy, and we all experience the painful reality that there is sometimes a gulf—or even an abyss—between our spiritual ideals and our ordinary daily lives!

So how can we reconcile the irreconcilable and embrace the contradictions?

The next Zaike retreat will take place from 27 to 31 October. For further information.
