Gotan-e sesshin

GOTAN E sesshin april 7-10

The Gotan-e sesshin is held every year at Ryumonji to celebrate the anniversary of the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical Buddha.

So every year we practice a sesshin, a 4-day silent retreat. A way of plunging into the heart of zazen, the Soto Zen meditation through which the Buddha awakened, under a tree, more than 2600 years ago.

The sesshin takes place in early spring, when nature awakens and offers an example of beautiful, ever-renewing energy. This year, the Gotan-e will follow the schedule of the Rohatsu sesshin (see below).

Teachings will be given by Master Reigen Wang-Genh, assisted by experienced monks and nuns.  It is also possible to ask him questions in private - dokusan - or in assembly - mondo.

The sesshin will take place from 7 to 10 April. Arrival on Thursday 6 April at 5pm. Meal at 8:30pm. Departure Monday, April 10 after lunch. Especially for this sesshin, it is really desirable to be present from start to finish.
