New Year's sesshin
From 29 December to 1 January, practitioners immersed themselves in the silence of practice during this New Year's sesshin.
To enter the new year, some human beings gather in Buddhist monasteries to celebrate an ancestral ritual: the ceremony of the 108 bells. Each person rings the large monastery bell and makes a vow - a commitment - for the coming year.
This is a tradition of Soto Zen Buddhism.
